Habitat


Our species’ ability to thrive on this planet depends on how well we plan, design, and build habitats for a wide array of human endeavors and cultures.  We owe it to ourselves and future generations to do far better job than the past 50 years of urban growth and runaway suburban sprawl have given us.


Habitat means more than buildings.  It means the wide range of natural and man made objects and landscapes - large and small - that make up the places in and around which we carry out our lives.  Habitats are meant to sustain and enable people, communities and cultures to thrive.  Much of what surrounds us today fails on many counts.


Transpolis was created to help improve human habitats.   Our global collaboration of design, academic, and public policy experts join forces to inspire creative solutions to the complex social, economic and environmental problems faced by businesses, neighborhoods, communities and cities.


  1. ‘Trans’ as in Transdisciplinary crossing and converging traditional disciplinary boundaries, and 'Polis' as in city-state, and the notion of citizenship.
